Teeth Whitening

Whitening can lighten the shade of your teeth and remove stains or discolorations caused by aging, medications, tobacco, coffee and tea. Tooth whitening doesn’t last forever, so the procedure will have to be repeated regularly if you want to maintain the same look.

To begin, we will take impressions of your teeth and make custom mouthpieces (trays) to fit your teeth. You will then be given a supply of bleaching gel (usually containing hydrogen peroxide) that is applied in the trays and worn over your teeth for 60 to 90 minutes every day for about three weeks. Care should be taken to use only the prescribed amount of whitening gel, as excess material can contact your gums and cause irritation.

Bleaching can cause increased tooth sensitivity in some people. This is a normal side effect, and usually subsides a few days after the treatments have been completed. Pregnant and nursing women should postpone whitening procedures.
